Photographe - plasticienne, Cathy Bion sillonne les ports du monde, du Maroc à la Bretagne, du Portugal à la Normandie, jusqu'à l’Australie ou le Mexique, loin des chemins balisés.
Dans les docks inondés de lumière, son oeil de peintre traque les couleurs et les matières, les traces du travail de l’homme en interférence avec celui du temps.
Elle s’immerge dans une nuance, une éraflure, une écaille de rouille, pour tenter d’en saisir l’essence et accéder à l’alchimie secrète des éléments.
Les photographies sans retouches de Cathy Bion recréent des paysages imaginaires, des petits fragments de vie colorés qu’elle vous invite à partager pour larguer les amarres vers un libre voyage.
Sa recherche porte sur la mémoire des ports, ces lieux empreints de poésie dont le nombre décline au fil du temps sous la menace grandissante pesant sur les écosystèmes maritimes.
Elle s'inscrit dans l'un des grands principes de l'esthétique japonaise, le "Wabi Sabi", qui célèbre la beauté de l'éphémère et de l'imperfection.
C'est à l'âge de 8 ans que Cathy Bion a débuté la photographie et elle a entrepris ses premiers voyages dès l'adolescence.
"Couleurs d'alizés", l'ouvrage photographique qui reprend ses escales portuaires, a été publié fin 2010 chez Critères Editions. Ses images sont accompagnées de textes de critiques d’art et par une préface graphique du dessinateur Loustal.
L'auteur a également créé plusieurs livres d'artistes et elle a mené des ateliers d'arts plastiques durant une quinzaine d'années.
Depuis 1992, elle expose son travail en France et à l'étranger (Maroc, Japon, Corée, Hong-Kong, Australie, Mexique, USA) ; la presse française et étrangère en fait régulièrement l'écho.

Cathy Bion is a visual artist based in Paris, France, whose tool is not a brush but a camera.
Harbours are her favorite subject and she travels all around the world to capture their essence : from Morocco to Portugal, Australia to Mexico... and of course in France.
In the radiant light of the docks, she looks at colours and materials with the eye of a painter, as a testimony of man’s activity. She zooms on a little scratch, a rust spot, a specific shade, all traces transformed by the passage of time and the secret alchemy of nature.
Focusing on colours and natural or man-made materials, her photography is abstract and always unretouched, producing an effect not dissimilar to painting.
Her research concerns the memory of ports, these poetic places whose numbers are declining over time under the growing threat to marine ecosystems.
It echoes one of the great principles of Japanese aesthetics, the "Wabi Sabi" which celebrates the beauty of the ephemeral and the imperfect.
Cathy Bion started photography at the age of 8 and began traveling as a teenager.
Her photobook "Couleurs d'alizés" (Trade winds colours) showcasing her art and featuring writings from art critics has been published by Critères Editions in 2010.
For the past 15 years, Cathy has been organizing art workshops and creating artist books. Her pictures have been published on book covers, arty bags, cards, posters... : they are part of public and private collections in France, Morocco, Japan, Australia and Mexico.
The French and the foreign press reports regularly about her work which has been exhibited in France and abroad (Morocco, Japan, Korea, Hong-Kong, Australia, Mexico, USA) since 1994.
